The Sound We Make: Play and Choir

Come to our wonderful evening of theatre and song.

On Wednesday evening, June 16th at 7:30 pm TACID (an organization that promtes the independence of individuals with disabilites) and Pierce County Homeless Connect is proud to present an uplifting and exciting evening of creative and theatrical arts and music at the Tacoma Musical Playhouse at 7116 Sixth Avenue, Tacoma, WA 98406.

Our master of ceremony will be Antonio Edwards, Jr., the Tacoma Poet Laureate. We will present the one-act play, The Sound We Make written by local playwrite Nick Stokes. After a short intermission, we will introduce the entertainment for the second half of the evening: The Total Experience Gospel Choir with Pastor Pat Wright. Proceeds from the event will benefit TACID programs and the one-day event held each October at the Tacoma Dome to help the homeless.

The Sound We Make is a thoughtful look at life, which takes place just beyond our view.

Set in Tacoma's Fireman's Park sits a bench recently vacated. Three homeless people vie for the bench's ownership and its consequences. This one-act play reveals truths about those who struggle with their own versions of reality to keep their dreams alive.

Sponsors (angels) have been found for all overhead costs, so that all ticket proceeds along with food and refreshment profits will go directly to programs for people with disabilities and homeless individuals and families. Whatever you can give will help. Please, share or post our The Sound We Make flyer and our larger The Sound We Make poster.

Pastor Patrinell "Pat" Wright was born in Carthage, Texas to a Baptist preacher dad and a school teacher mom. She is one of seven siblings. Being introduced to music early, she sang her first solo at the age of 3. By the time of her 14th birthday, she had taught herself to play the piano and was directing two choirs in her father's church.

Patrinell attended Turner High School in Carthage, where she graduated as valedictorian of her class. She went on to attend college at Prairie View A & M in Hempstead, Texas. In 1964, Pat moved to Seattle, Washington.

Her music career is quite extensive and in 1973 she founded Total Experience Gospel Choir. The choir is very well known and has traveled and performed to U.S. president, to crowds in 38 states, on 5 continents and 22 countries. The choir consists of persons with ages 6 - 72. The choir has to its credits numerous awards and 7 recordings.

Pastor Pat Wright and the Total Experience Gospel Choir form the core of Black Nativity. Black Nativity has been a holiday tradition at Intiman Theatre in Seattle since 1998 and has, in recent years, outgrown the capacity of the Intiman stage; as the holidays approach, audiences cannot get seats due to sold-out houses. Next year Intiman will produce Black Nativity in a larger venue in King County. If you have tried in vain to see Black Nativity and the Total Experience Gospel Choir, here is your chance to tap your toes and move to their rhythms and voices here in Tacoma. .
